• Civil War Balloon-Lincoln and Lowe

    As part of the June 11th Family Day, "Mr. Lincoln's Air Force", a 19,000-cubic-foot, netted gas balloon was partially inflated on the National Mall. It was built in 1941 and is very similar in operation and size to the balloons used by Thaddeus Lowe.

    Re-enactors dressed as Thaddeus Lowe and Abraham Lincoln pose in front of the balloon.
