Wilbur Wright stands at the right wing tip of the Wright aircraft and Orville Wright between the landing skids during the 1909 military flight trials at Fort Myer, Virginia (June 29). The 1909 Wright Military Flyer was the first aircraft purchased by the U.S. government.
