Museum to Begin Seven-Year Renovation
Major renovation of the building on the National Mall will begin before the end of the year. Though the museum will remain open, phased gallery closures will begin Dec. 3 with the closure of the “Apollo to the Moon” and “Looking at Earth” exhibitions. Several additional galleries will close in January 2019.
Museum Welcomes Oracle Challenger III
The National Air and Space Museum will receive Sean D. Tucker’s Oracle Challenger III high-performance aircraft for the future “We All Fly” exhibition. The museum has received a $10 million gift from the Thomas W. Haas Foundation for construction of the gallery.
Major Airlines Join Forces To Contribute to the Museum
The National Air and Space Museum has announced that nine major commercial airlines contributed gifts totaling $28 million to support the transformation of the flagship building in Washington, DC. These are among the first major gifts received for the campaign to transform all of the museum’s exhibitions and visitor experience.
