Harold Nelson enlisted in the Army Air Corps shortly after the war started and after completing flight training was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. He was assigned to the 8th Air Force, 487th Bomb Group and flew thirty five combat missions as a copilot and later first pilot. Decorations: Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, Victory in Europe Medal, Presidential Citation, European Theater Ribbon. His interest in aviation continued after the war and he flew his own plane for business and pleasure.
