Some of the Army Air Corps bases Lieutenant Miller was assigned to were: Luke Air Force Base, Arizona; Mather Air Force Base, California; Greenville Air Force Base, South Carolina.

Upon completion of his primary and advanced pilot training, Lieutenant Miller was assigned as a combat command pilot in a North American B-25 medium bomber and assigned to an Air Group based in Italy. Lieutenant Miller was awarded an Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster.

In July 1945 Lieutenant Miller was flying his B-25 and flight crew on their return to the United States when his aircraft disappeared along the coast of Africa. The Army Air Corps declared Lieutenant Miller and his crew missing and presumed dead on July 8, 1945. Lieutenant Allen R. Miller is memorialized at Florence American Cemetery, Via Cassia, and Italy.
