    Flew P-38 fighters in the South Pacific in World War II. Enlisted June 1942, accepted into flight training in Baltimore, 1943. 28 June 1944 left San Francisco for the Pacific assigned to the 339th Fighter Squadron on Middleburg Island, July 1944. Participated in numerous combat flight missions from Sept. 1944 – 12 January 1945. 17 January 1945 awarded the Air Medal with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster for “sustained operational flight missions”. Transferred back to U.S. mainland in May, 1945 after completing maximum combat missions.
