1st Lieutenant Elery L. Bush, O-693005, U. S. Army Air Corps, crashed and died on 31 December 1944. He was assigned to the 72nd Fighter 283 (TT) Squadron, 2nd U.S. Army Air Force. He was attempting to land a TB-26 martin Marauder with one engine at Galveston Army Air Field, Galveston, Texas. He had 742 hours and 40 minutes total pilot time. He had previously made several successful engine-out landings, but with a prop that would not feather and some gusting high winds his lunch ran out. He was 26 years old and my oldest brother.
