    Norman R Stromness, 1stLt US Army Air Corps, was born in Salt Lake City, UT 24 Sep 1924. During World War II (WWII) he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was selected to be a pilot. He graduated from flying school 15 Apr 1944 and was subsequently assigned to the 42nd Bomb Wing, 17th Bomb Group, 432nd Squadron in Sardinia, Italy. In the European Theater he flew a total of 62 combat bombing missions in the Martin B-26, flying out of Sardinia, Corsica, and finally France until the war ended.

    He graduated from the University of Utah in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1963 he received his Master of Science degree in Engineering Administration. He worked as a chemical engineer for US Steel from which he retired in 1983. He then went to work for the Utah National Guard as a Civil Engineer where he supervised the design and construction of new armories. He retired from this position in 2003 at the age of 78.

    For several years he owned and enjoyed flying a Cessna 150. He was an avid golfer all his life and at age 80 could still walk 18 holes. His courage and strong work ethic were an inspiration to his family and friends all his life. He died 29 April 2010.
