Spent one year in Italy as a B-17 pilot, where he flew 30 missions over enemy territory. Spent time flying American soldiers from Italy to North Africa after the war was over. Was awarded the Purple Heart and the Soldiers Medal. Spent time in the Air Force Reserves and Civil Air Patrol in Lakin, Kansas. Finished four years of college in 1949. Has been a farmer since then.
