    Mr. Kenneth E. Mattox

A top 5% graduate of navigators' school, this former standout on the gridiron nicknamed the next "Galloping Ghost" was selected for radar training in 1943. Upon completion, Wallace's assignment to a new B-29 crew established bonds which endure to this day. Superfort #K37 was sent to the 330th Bomb Group on Tinian. Its 9th mission, on 6/1/45, was this plane and crew's (Behrens' Brood) last together. The harrowing flight is described in the Boston Herald article “Crippled, Bomb-Loaded, Superfort Shot Down by P-61 in Weird Fight”. After sustaining neck and foot injuries from the bailout, Wallace forewent a return stateside, finishing 22 missions. He was awarded 2 purple hearts for service.
