    Cmdr. Richard E. Sargent, (Ret.)

    Lt. Sargent enlisted in the U. S. Army on 17 November 1917. Appointed a 2nd Lt. Army Air Service on 30 July 1918 and served in France as an Aerial Observer and Gunner with the 100th Aerial Observation Squadron during World War I. Discharged on 10 February 1919 and appointed a 2nd Lt. in the officer Reserve Service Corps of the U. S. Army on 22 April 1921. Applied for a patent for a unique helicopter propeller on 28 March 1928 which was approved on 13 October 1931.
    Joined the Air Corps National Guard on 7 November 1930. He died in an auto accident at the age of 40 on 15 February 1936. His son, Walter Herbert Sargent became a 2nd Lt. in the Air Force and a P-51 Mustang pilot during World War II. He was KIA on 19 June 1944.
