    Ms. Joyce A. Adams

Born March 12, 1982 in Salem, Ohio, Airman First Class William G. McElroy was the son of Terry and Cindy McElroy. Bill attended Salem High School where he graduated in 2001. He was very active in the Boy Scouts where he earned thirty merit badges and was awarded Eagle Scout in 2001. He was an assistant scoutmaster and a member of the prestigious “Order of the Arrow”, an elite group of scouts nominated by their peers.
He joined the United States Air Force on August 28, 2001. Bill attended six weeks of Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He went to attend his initial technical training as a jet engine mechanic at Shepard Air Force Base, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Bill met all requirements of his new vocation; he was given an assignment to Shaw Air Force Base where he began his career as a jet engine mechanic apprentice. Bill continued to excel and strive for improvement by working to complete his career development course material and increase his technical knowledge. He served as a role model for his peers; he was considered to possess abilities far superior to his grade.
On June 12, 2003, William G. McElroy succumbed to injuries he sustained from a motorcycle accident while on active duty as a member of the United States Air Force. He will always be a member of the 55th Fighter Squadron and a brother to those who call themselves jet engine mechanics. His life and legacy will be a permanent part of the history.
