    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:

Adelbert "Dib" Carpenter was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he graduated from University of Minnesota with double engineering degrees in Mechanical and Aeronautics in 1937. About the same time he would receive his private pilots license. WW II brought him into flight test with the Navy amphibian and fighter aircraft. Much work was done on the Navy Corsair to correct fuel cavitation problems in combat. Later, during the war, he was selected for flight-testing of captured enemy aircraft to determine their weaknesses for exploitation by our fighters. Following the war he was nominated by our government and accepted a teaching position at the Brazilian Air Force Academy. He returned from Brazil in the late forties to never fly again but to continue to be a life long aviation enthusiast and advocate. He always enjoyed his visits from the west coast to Washington D.C. and the opportunity to visit the Air & Space Museum.
