    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Mr. Jake Studebaker

Alan Frederick Ladd has been a long-time collector, researcher and enthusiast of the Pan American Airways "flying boats." The Sikorsky S-42, the Martin M-130 and the Boeing 314 are all planes that he has studied and memorabilia of which he has collected. He has an extensive library of Pan Am and flying boat books, including some rare, signed copies. He owns a watch worn by one of the Pan Am pilots on the inaugural flight of one of the planes. Also in his collection are rare, original travel posters from the 193 0s showing destinations in the Pacific and South America. He has traveled to the site of the Martin factory near Baltimore, Maryland; the PAA terminals in New York and Miami, and the Golden Gate Exposition site in San Francisco, all meccas of Pan American Airways history. Through his reading, research and collecting, Mr. Ladd is truly a layman's "expert" on this subject.
