    Albert E. Flack was born April 6, 1921 in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp November 20, 1942. Albert, nicknamed 'Jack', was a ball turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator while his unit, the 389th Bomb Group 'The Scorpions', was based in England at Hethel Air Base where they flew strategic bombing missions during WW II. While on his 25th bombing run over an oil refinery at Politz, GE their B-24 'Sunshine' was shot down and he was taken prisoner. Albert was a POW from June 20, 1944 to May 2, 1945 where he was held captive at Stalag Luft #4 in Eastern Prussia (now Poland). A story was done in the VFW magazine in April 1999 about the 'Death March Across Germany' by Gary Turbak, which recounted the many horrors that the prisoners, including Albert, endured in their march before they were liberated. Albert obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant by the end of his tour. After he returned home he worked as a tennis pro teaching tennis and eventually took up residence in Houston, TX. where he was the tennis pro at Pine Forest County Club. Albert was married with two children. He died February 7, 2010.
