Allen E. Wolfe has been involved with "Rocketry" since the late 1940s, starting as an instrumentation engineer for the air-ground missile range at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD and for the first Bumper launch from Cape Canaveral. While at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, beginning in 1952, he worked on the Unmanned Space Program from its inception until his retirement in 1989. He was payioad Instrumentation Engineer on Explorer 1, Spacecraft System Manager for the Ranger lunar program, Orbiter Manager for the Viking spacecrafts sent to Mars, and Deputy Project Manager for the Galileo mission to Jupiter.

At the time of retirement he was Chief Engineer for Flight Projects at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and a member of the Cassini project review board. He is the recipient of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Medals for Outstanding Leadership and Exceptional Service and NASA's Public Service Award.
