    Honored by:

Alonzo (Lon) Reed, born May 7, 1948. Lon's fascination with flight began in 1976 when a cousin who had recently received his private pilot's license offered to take Lon up for a quick flight. The airport was an old military base in Chico California. Lon distinctly remembers the repeated thump of the wheels crossing the runway expansion seams as they gained speed for take off. The expectation grew as each thump came closer to the last and then there was silence as they left the ground. The feeling of being in a third dimension captivated Lon. He immediately began working on his own pilot's license. Most of his instruction took place at the Napa County airfield where he soloed after seven and a half hours of instruction time. After moving to Sonoma County he obtained his private pilot's license in April of 1980. He prefers a Piper Cherokee and enjoys the beauty of night flying. Over the years he has introduced many family members to the joy of flying.
