    Mr. David Evans

Alton Owen Evans began his 50 year career in aviation as a 19 year old during the Korean War when he enlisted in the Air Force and was trained as an aircraft mechanic. After training, he was assigned to the 580th Air Resupply and Communications Wing. The 580th conducted physiological warfare operations from Wheelus AFB, Tripoli, Libya. Alton helped maintain the unit's aircraft, and served as a crewmember on B-29s and A-20s. After serving for four years, he left the Air Force to pursue a career in civilian aviation. After attending college and earning his A&P license, Alton was hired by Eastern Airlines as a mechanic. He advanced through the maintenance ranks to become a Manager of Aircraft Maintenance. As a manager, he was responsible for all maintenance at several maintenance bases. After 29 years of service, he retired from Eastern Airlines. Alton then became a maintenance consultant and worked for various companies worldwide for 16 years. After retiring, he volunteered his time at a local air museum. He eventually became the director of the museum. On March 6, 2001, he was presented with the Charles Taylor Award by the FAA. This award is given to individuals who work in the field of aircraft maintenance for fifty years.
