    Born January 24, 1916, in Bedford, Virginia, Mr. Rucker attended the University of Richmond and the Washington & Lee University Law School. He served the United States Navy in World War II first as a civilian primary flight instructor in Montvale, Virginia, and Roanoke, Virginia, and, later, as a Navy Link Trainer flight instructor in Atlanta, Georgia, and Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Rucker practiced law in Bedford, Virginia, for over forty years, serving as Commonwealth's Attorney for sixteen years and later as General District Court Judge. He and his wife, Helen Louise Wingfield Rucker, have a daughter and three sons, two of whom also are aviators.
