As a Grumman Aerospace Corporation employee for 35 years, he received numerous awards, including a Citation for Excellence from the Chairman of Grumman in 1979.
Mr. Caserta worked in Instrumentation and Test – Engineering and Management. His experience included design and development of: Metrology Standards Pressure, Temperature, Acceleration, Flow and other sensing elements; ‘Systems Engineered’ Data Acquisition and Control (analog and digital) Computer Designs; Manufacturing Management Systems; Surface Transportation Innovations and various responsibilities in Classified Space Based Environmental Systems. He was responsible for provisioning the LEM launch and test instrumentation for Grumman’s WhiteSands and MSA-Houston test and control centers, as well as for Cape Kennedy test and launch support equipment and facilities.
His experience included successful conceptualization, specification and management of projects for a wide range of aircraft and space programs including: OAO, LEM, BSTS, F14, E2, A6, OV-1 HU-16, V/STOL, and SBR.
As an Avioptic / Computer engineer, Caserta built Grumman’s first “gagabit” optical data bus, enabling multi-computer operations via light. He designed space-based thermal Sensors, created software for a PC based digital pulse compression radar, and was awarded three fiber optic patents.
Caserta was TACRV’s proposal test manager and created specifications for the vehicle’s 300+ mph test guideway built in Pueblo, Colorado.
The Pontiphians ™ are coming! Since retiring from Grumman, he and his son, Charles William Caserta, invented, patented and trademarked a high speed ‘Pontiphian’ vehicle which travels rapidly on both land and water. These multi-dimensional vehicles are designed to become the family, SUV or sports car of the future in the 21st century. They have already built and demonstrated a successful prototype for this revolutionary amphibious design. Other versions including Scenic Tour bus, Ambulance, Rescue Vehicles, Postal vehicles, Trucks and Recreational Vans (RVs) are on the drawing boards and in various stages of development.
