My sisters and I are proud to propose our late parents Arlee and Oscar Fisher to the National Air and Space Museum Wall of Honor because they were partners in the U.S.A.'s '"Greatest Generation," the generation that loved and believed in God and country all of their lives. We are proud to have been raised by them and to inherit their legacy of love, faith, and hope.
This couple cherished their faith in God and their faith in the greatest nation that ever existed. Their lives reflected this as they lived to bring honor to both. Just several generations away from the days of slavery, these Black Americans did not look back. They saw the bright future equal opportunity promised, and they encouraged their children and grandchildren to take the greatest advantage of it.
They believed in educating yourself; stretching to reach your greatest potential; and, giving 110% in the career you choose, because if you choose it wisely the personal satisfaction you receive is reward in itself.
As young adults, Dad proudly served in the Navy during World War II, and Mom, like all patriotic Americans, supported the war effort in every way she could. Giving honor to their God, their country, their family, and to their own dreams, they instilled these virtues in their children, and we are grateful for these loving lessons.
We thank God for them, and bless them in the name of Jesus because we know they reside with Him now in Heaven. We will always remember what we learned from them, and pass this knowledge to all of their descendants to come - pride in our faith, pride in our accomplishments, and pride in our country.
