Born January 14, 1927 in New Jersey.
Education: BS from MIT 1949, graduate work at UCLA in OR and info systems
WWII - USNR Electronic Technician 2nd class (the Eddy program)-
1949-1961 Hazeltine Corp (NY) and Packard Bell (LA), design engineer and project manager on
development of aircraft navigation and identification (IFF) equipment - ground and aircraft components. Projects included over 500 VOR ground stations, control center for Eniwetok tests, displays for USN C&C.
1961-1978 Aerospace Corp, EI Segundo, CA (Federal Contract Research Center -the engineer and
architect for military and surveillance space systems).). Directed update of AF Satellite Control Tracking Stations to multi-satellite capability, developed SGLS (standard space-ground link, adaptable to simple and complex spacecraft), Director of Orbital Operations and C&C for Manned Orbiting Laboratory Program, Chief Systems Engineer of Satellite Control Facility, Group Director responsible for design and development of Defense Dissemination System, which provided high speed, satellite-derived intelligence data to Armed Services worldwide and advanced the state of the art in communications and image processing (essentially invented JPEG).
1978-1982 Director of Office of Program Evaluation and Improvement in Intelligence Community Staff (GS-18/SIS4 position) - a talented group of analysts (8 with PhD's) who evaluated both ongoing processes and the impact of new technology - as requested by the DCI.
1982-83 Deputy Director of Advanced Programs, Office of Manned Space Flight, NASA Headquarters (the extremely creative Ivan Bekey was the director). Primarily responsible for developing experiments to prove capabilities to build large structures, service and refuel satellites, develop tools and procedures for on-orbit servicing.
1984-1991 Consulted on space and information systems and on developing confidence measures for verification of arms control treaties using large-scale simulations.
Earned Private Pilot's license at age 70.
