    From an article datelined "An Eighth Air Force Bomber Station, England." 1945

    Staff Sgt. Arthur E. Yingling, Eighth Air Force, of Titusville, FL, a waist gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, has been decorated with the Distinguish Flying Cross for “extraordinary achievement" on bombing attacks on enemy Europe.

    Veteran of more than a score of combat missions, Sgt. Yingling has taken part in aerial assaults on Berlin five times and once each on Bruswick, Kassel, Stetin, Kiel, Hamburg, Dessau, Oschersleben and other vital enemy installations.

    The citation accompanying his award read in part: "The courage, coolness and skill displayed by this enlisted man upon these occasions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States."

    Sgt. Yingling, 22 years old, wears the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf clusters. A graduate; of Colestock high school, Titusville, FL class of 1940 he worked in the shipping room of Universal Cyclops Steel Company before entering the Army September 17, 1942. His wife Martha Jane Yingling lives on Main St and his parents are Mr. & Mrs. Arthur R. Yingling of 717 Church Run St. Titusville.
