The Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) is an internationally-recognized membership association for providers of air and ground medical transport services. A voluntary, nonprofit organization established in 1980, AAMS encourages and supports its members in maintaining a standard of performance reflecting safe operations and efficient, high-quality patient care.
The individuals involved in AAMS come from a diverse background of professions: aviation (pilots, mechanics, Part 135 operators, aircraft manufacturers, and others), medical (physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory care practitioners), and administrative (program directors, financial officers, hospital administrators, communication specialists).
Together all of these professionals work to implement uniform safety standards, to maintain and improve reimbursement procedures, stimulate industry research and enhance education in the hopes of improving and advancing Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transport and patient care.
(Note: Part 135 used above refers to a set of rules with more stringent standards for commuter and on demand operations, and is part of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).)
