    Bernard F. Quilty served in the 12th U.S. Army Air Force from February, 1942 to May, 1945. He attended Keesler AFB for basic training, went to Denver for Armament School, trained at Bendix Turrent School in Indiana before joining the 57th wing, 321st Bomber Group in Walterboro, GA. Assigned to the 447th Squadron, Mr. Quilty served in the European/North Africa Theatre as a B-25 nose gunner/toggler over Italy and Ukraine. He completed 50 missions, receiving the Air Medal with 9 Oak Clusters and a Purple Heart on a mission over Salerno. He returned to the U.S. in November 1943 to serve as a gunnery instructor on the A-26 fighter/bomber in Marianna, FL. He married Catharine C. Healy on May 27, 1944 and celebrated 60 years of marriage with their eight children in East Syracuse, NY in May 2004.
