Bernard Yellen served in the Aleutians and also South Pacific campaigns. His squadrons were VP-46 and VP-47. I cannot tell you why he was awarded the DFC as talked little about his experiences. I had hoped he would record some of them, but he died with Alzheimer’s disease on October 16, 2003. However, he was very proud of all of his medals which included 3 flying cross medals.
