    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Mr. Michael Wilson

Her dream was to fly. In a time when few women ventured into the sky, aviatrix Bettye Mae Kahle trained others to fly her beloved Fairchild PT-19 Cornell at both the Kratz and Lambert airfields near St. Louis, Missouri. In doing so, Bettye passed the joy of flying to untold numbers of post-World War II veterans. She was a proud member of the “99s”, the famous women’s flying group. Bettye was taken from us in 1957, succumbing to leukemia.
