BGen. Dewey D. "Sonny" Foster, Jr., 1933-1999, Columbia, South Carolina. 1955 graduate of the University of South Carolina, pilot for 35 years with the USAF, South Carolina Air National Guard, and several air lines including Eastern Air Lines.

General Foster flew with Eastern Air Lines until 1991 and retired from the Air National Guard in 1984. Military aircraft flown include the B-47, F-102, F-104, A-7, and F-16. Awards and recognitions include the Legion of Merit and Meritorious Service Medal.

In December 1999 General Foster died in an aircraft accident. Surviving are his wife Jerry Cunningham Foster, his daughter and son-in-law Amy Foster and Edwin P. Martin, Jr., and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Laurence Foster.
