    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:
    Ms. Elizabeth Gravuer

Born September 5, 1948 Bud's love of air and space began at an early age - inspired by his uncle, Bill Moore, head of photography for the US Navy. Bill knew the "Original 7" taking many early astronauts' training photos on the centrifuge at Johnsville NADC. He gave Bud a Press-book on Project Mercury in 1960. Bud promptly cut-out and hung all photos on his closet doors, falling asleep each night dreaming of Space.

Bud began his career at GE Aerospace applying to work on the Manned Orbital Laboratory (M.O.L.) Program, predecessor of SkyLab. Unfortunately the program was canceled because of The Peaceful Manned Use of Space Treaty, prior to his working on the team. Bud worked on Minuteman III program as Developmental Machinist, Missile X (Peacekeeper) as Supplier Quality Specialist, and eventually the Trident program as Quality Engineer. He personally worked on/experienced many space exploration projects such as Pioneer Venus, Galileo and Cassini. During his career, GE Aerospace was acquired by Martin Marietta, ultimately merged with Lockheed becoming Lockheed Martin. He invested over 40 Years, with his final position as a Principal Systems Engineer.

Bud flew support missions worldwide as Civil Engineer in the Air Force and AF Reserve ultimately retiring as Chief Master Sergeant (E9) after 30+ years. He spent many hours in the back of C119's, C130's and C141's.

Bud's air and space passion inspired his youngest daughter, Kelly, who attended U.S. Space Camp [chosen one of two students with "The Right Stuff"], Space Academy Level I and Aviation Challenge, as a teenager. She inspired others with her Challenge Speech at the 5th National Total Quality Symposium. Her theme was "To be the first woman to walk on Mars", soliciting support from over 600 Quality Professionals to help her get there!

In later years, Bud relocated from Pennsylvania to Cocoa, Florida; close to Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. He and Wife, Liz, volunteer free-time to help with CCAFS launch event parking and guided tours of the Cape Canaveral Lighthouse; the only Lighthouse in the world owned by USAF and operated by Coast Guard.
