    Brigadier General Ken Combs served more than 42 years in the U.S. military. He began his service in September 1946 in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was an F4U aircraft mechanic aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt.
    He retired in January 1989 as Commander of the Air National Guard Combat Readiness Training Center in Gulfport, Mississippi.
    General Combs served two terms as Mayor of Gulfport from July 1989 to July 1997.
