    Honored by:
    Mr. Bruce D. Brettain

Bruce enlisted in the United States Army after graduation from high school in 1968. He did so because he believed it was his duty and his turn to do so, not because he understood what the war in Vietnam was about. He signed up for the infantry but went to flight school when it was offered to him. From there he went to South Vietnam and served as a Scout pilot for Headquarters Company, First Brigade, First Air Cavalry Division, commonly known as the “Flying Circus.” On May 1, 1970 he flew in advance of the lead units of the First Cav advancing into Cambodia. His call sign was “Batman.”
