    Bill Pancake was born 9 February 1940 in Keyser, WV. He went for his first airplane ride in the summer of 1946. In 1950 he starting working at the Keyser Airport mowing grass, washing airplanes, and sweeping the hangar floor in exchange for airplane rides and flight instructions. Bill soloed on 9 February 1956 on his 16th birthday. He became a Private Pilot in 1957. He presently holds the following ratings: Commercial, Instrument, Multi-engine, Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic (A&P) with an Inspection Authorization (IA) and Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). In 1960 he starting working for WESTVACO as an Electronics Technician and retired from there on July 1, 2002 with 42 1/2 year of service. In 1973 he opened his own aircraft and engine restoration shop - Pancake Aviation. He has had 11 Awarding Winning Aircraft at EAA Airventure in Oshkosh, WI. His restoration have also been Award Winning Aircraft at the National Aeronca Association Flyin, Sun-N-Fun, Sentimental Journey, and at many other flyins. His expertise has become know world wide and has assisted with aircraft restoration in Iceland, Germany, Panama, South Africa, Canada, and most of the 50 states. Bill serves as an EAA Technical Counselor, Flight Advisor, Classic Judge, and Forum Presenter and has been a member of EAA since 1976 and EAA Vintage member since 1981. In addition he does Seminar for the Baltimore and Washington FSDO. He has been featured in many publication such as EAA Sport Aviation, Vintage Magazine, and the National Aeronca Association.. Special Awards 2000 Keyser High School Legion of Honor, 2006 The Wright Brothers "Master Pilot" Award and The Charles Taylor "Master Mechanic" Award, 2007 named Distinguished Mountaineer by former Governor Joe Manchin and 2008 Vintage Aircraft Association Hall of Fame. 2014 he was selected as one of the first group of inductees into the West Virginia Aviation Hall of Fame along with General Chuck Yeager, Captain Jon McBride, and General J. Kemp McLaughlin. 2014 was named Distinguished West Virginian by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. Bill has been married to wife Saundra for 51 years. They are the parents of one daughter Dr. Stacey Boggs and husband Mark, grandchildren Michael Boggs and wife Jacki, Robert Boggs, Curtiss Boggs, and Hannah Boggs.
