    Lieutenant Commander Calvin P. Langford, USN (Ret) is a 1976 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He began training as a Navy jet pilot that year and was designated a Naval Aviator in December 1977 at NAS Chase Field, Beeville, TX having flown the T-34B Mentor, T-2C Buckeye and TA-4J Skyhawk. He continued to fly the A-4E and TA-4J variants of the Skyhawk during flying tours with Fleet Composite Squadron 5 (NAS Cubi Pt, Republic of the Philippines), Training Squadron 7 (NAS Meridian, MS) and while on the staff Chief of Naval Air Training, Corpus Christi, TX. In 1983, he transitioned to the EA-7L Corsair II and flew for two tours with Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 34 at NAS Pt Mugu, CA. His non-flying tours included two years at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA where he earned his master's degree, and his final three years in the service when he served as one of six naval officers at the United States Military Academy as an assistant professor of mechanical engineering. During his 18 years on active duty, LCDR Langford attained the following designations and milestones: Naval Aviator with Special Instrument rating, Section and division lead in A-4s and A-7s, Instructor Pilot in A-4s and A-7s, Functional check pilot for the A-4 and A-7, Aviation Safety Officer, Designated sub-specialist in Weapons system engineering and Electronic Warfare, over 1000 accident free hours in the A-4 and A-7, over 2600 hours total flight time, 16 carrier landings in the T-2C and TA-4J aircraft, Logged flights from the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Okinawa and Japan in the Western Pacific, Trans-Pac flights between Hawaii and California, US West Coast from California to Alaska, most of the continental US and as far east as Puerto Rico and neighboring islands. Awarded personal awards of the Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal. Units in which he served were awarded two Meritorious Unit Commendations. Since he retired from active service in 1994, LCDR Langford has worked in the aerospace industry as a systems engineer and analyst.
