    Captain Hawkins (deceased) was a Naval Aviator from 1942 through 1973. With 14 enemy aircraft confirmed shot down, and three more probables, he is the Navy’s 10th all time Fighter Ace. He is also credited with destroying 39 aircraft on the ground and assisting in the sinking of the Japanese Battleship Ise during WW II. He served two tours of duty with the Blue Angels, the second as Commanding Officer. Ini 1953, he was forced to eject from a jet aircraft travelling faster than the3 speed of sound, becoming the first pilot ever to do that and live. He died 3/21/04.
