Capt. Wessner was born 27 May 1940 in Allentown, PA. In 1961, he earned a BS in Aeronautical Maintenance Engineering from Parks College of St. Louis University. Until 1969, he worked with the US Navy in the research and development of turbo jet and turbo fan engines. In 1964, he earned his private, commercial, instrument, instructor, and ATP FAA airman ratings. On 15 May 1969, Capt. Wessner joined United Airlines as a 727 flight engineer. During the next 32 years he flew the Boeing 727, 737, 747, 757, 767, and Airbus A320. He was flown to the 50 states, Europe, Asia, and South America. Capt. Wessner retired 1 May 2000 and resides in the St. Petersburg, Florida area with his wife Jeanne.
