CAPT William S. Joransen USN (Ret) joined the Navy in 1966 to fly. He received his Wings of Gold in 1968 and began flying the A-6 Intruder at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. He flew several Intruder models that included the A-6A, A-6B, KA-6D, and A-6E. Many aircraft he flew were built in the same timeframe as Udvar-Hazy 154167 and similarly modified from an A-6A configuration to an A-6E configuration. His naval flying experience included both Vietnam combat and peacetime operational deployments. He was assigned to VA-196, flying from the USS Ranger from 1969-1971, and VA-52, flying from the USS Kitty Hawk from 1973-1975.

He continues to be involved with the historical significance of the Intruder by participating in the Valiant Air Command Museum's annual airshow held at Titusville, Florida. Using the museum's A-6E static display, he tells visitors the A-6 story while pointing out the airplane?€™s unique features and characteristics.
