    In 1941 - joined USAF after pilot training at University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio. After basic training he was commissioned second lt. and sent to west coast searching for Japanese submarines. Washington requested Air Force pilots (trained to fly over water) to torpedo training with the Navy I volunteered. After Torpedo Training was sent to Eglin Field, FL. With the Air Force Proving Ground Command and was one of the pilots to form the Air Force Torpedo Group of which I became in charge of engineering. Two years later, I was sent to Watertown, South Dakota Air Force Base and became Commanding officer of the base. Later became Group Operations Officer of Cold Water Weather Testing on airplanes in Fairbanks, Alaska.
