    Capt. Carl H. Meltzer served as radar operator/navigator with the 794th Bomb Squadron, 58th Bomb Wing of the 468th Bomb Group (VH), XXth Bomber Command in 1944 and 1945. His B-29 "Assam Dragon" was based in India with forward bases in Chengtu China. He participated in the first bombing attacks on the Japanese home islands since the Doolittle raid of 1942. In the field, he developed a method for removing dents from the radar dome using hot sand and bricks and was reprimanded for not publicizing the method to the other squadrons. He moved to Tinian with the squadron and continued flying until the end of the war. After a long career as an engineer with RCA he is now retired.
