A Kansas native, drafted off the farm at 20 years of age in 1942 to the Medical Corps. Was transferred into Air Cadet Program and graduated as pilot in 1944, Flew a new B-17G to England in August, 1944. Flew 35 combat missions as first pilot on his plane, known as “Mac’s Hack”. Having had only one year of high school, was able to attend and graduate from the University of Oklahoma at Norman, Oklahoma after the war.
