Captain Leighty began his 32-year career with United Air lines in 1967 as a Flight Engineer on the DC-6. He continued as Flight Engineer on the Boeing 727, Boeing 720, and DC-10.
As co-pilot he flew the Boeing 737 and Boeing 767.
His promotion to Captain was on the Boeing 737 after which he flew the Airbus A320 and the Boeing 777, retiring medically in 1999.
