    Dwight Jackson began his flying career in 1958 through the Reserve Officers Training Corps Program (ROTC) while attending Kansas State University. He soloed in Cessna 120 and 140 airplanes. In the Army, he initially trained in the Hiller H-23 helicopter, which had the main rotor blades made of wood. Other Army helicopters he flew were Bell H-13' s, Bell UH-l 's, Sikorsky H-19's, Sikorsky CH-34's and the BoeinglVertol CH47.

    Dwight began his career with United Airlines in September, 1966 and flew as a flight engineer on Douglas DC-6 and DC-8 aircraft and as copilot on the Boeing 737and 747-400. He checked out as Captain on the Boeing 737 and retired as Captain on the Boeing 757 and 767 airplanes. During his career with United Airlines, he was based in Washington DC, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco and New York City. The last eight years of his career were international flying to Naritaffokyo, Europe, South America, and included the Los Angeles - New York - London - Delhi portion of the around the world flight.
