    Captain Edward J. Eshleman started his aviation career as an aviation cadet in the Army-Air Corps. He received his flying instruction at Kelly and Brooks Field Texas and was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1927. One year later he joined Western Air Express in Denver as a commercial pilot. During the war years, Captain Eshleman flew across the Pacific for United Air Lines which was under contract to the Air Transport Command. His many flights took him to Pearl Harbor, Australia, New Guinea, The Philippines, Tokyo, Guam, The Marianas, New Caledonia, The Solomons and New Zealand. He also flew many flights between Canada and Alaska during his five years with the Air Transport command. He flew more than 30,000 hours beginning his career flying air mail in open cockpit airplanes and advanced all the way to flying four engine commercial jets with United Air lines. He retired on November 1, 1963.
