    Gene Dankenbring graduated from the University of Washington in June, 1953. He had completed four years in the Naval Reserve Officers Training (NROTC) program and was accepted for the U.S. Navy’s flight training program at Pensacola Florida. Upon completion of flight training, Gene was assigned to VC-11 Squadron, based at North Island, San Diego, Calif. Gene completed one tour of active duty, flying AD Skyraiders off the decks of the USS Hancock, USS Shangri-La, and USS Essex.
    In 1957, Gene accepted employment with United Airlines, where he flew commercial airliners for thirty three years. He retired as Captain in 1990. During his career, Gene flew all of the following aircraft: The Convair 340, the Douglas DC-6,7,8, and 10, and the Boeing 720, 727, 737, and 747.
