    United Air Lines Captain Horrace D, Cain, Retired, spent forty-one years involved in professional aviation. Thirteen years were with the United States Air Force (USAF) where he spent four years in combat crew status. He also spent twenty-eight years as a flight officer with United Air Lines. (UAL)
    Horrace entered the USAF in 1955 as an Aviation Cadet shortly after his nineteenth birthday. He received his Navigator's Wings, and Second Lieutenant's Commission in 1956 at age twenty. Lt. Cain then went on to win his rating as a Bombardier and then shortly after he earned his Pilot's wings. In the USAF, Horrace served in T-29, Boeing B-47, T-37, T-33, T-38, and C-123 aircraft.
    Early in 1968, USAF Captain Cain traded his AF Blue for the blue of United Air Lines. He continued his aviation career until his retirement from United in 1996. UAL Captain Cain served in various positions in Boeing 737, Boeing 727, Douglas DC-8 and DC-10 aircraft.
    Capt. Cain has spent many hours working with young people informing, instructing, and teaching aviation interests. He was involved with all kinds of model airplane activities and spent several years as a Vice President on the Board of Directors of the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
    As of this writing, April 2004, Horrace still encourages young people in the advantages of aeronautical careers. Horrace has two sons. The younger is a private pilot and the older, a Lt. Colonel, is now serving in the USAF as an Aircraft Commander on C-5 aircraft. Horrace also has one stepson, which he assisted to gain the civil ratings through commercial, instrument, multi-engine and flight instructor.
