    Honored by:

My flying career consisted of 6 years with the U.S. Air Force flying the B-25, B-24, B-17 and B-29 during and after World War II and 33.5 years as an airline pilot for United Airlines flying the DC-3, Convair, DC-4, DC-6 & 6B, DC-7, DC-8 and B-747 while based in San Francisco. I retired as a B-747 Captain on April 1, 1984.
    Memorable Moments:
Simultaneous loss of all four engines on United Airlines Flight 35, a B-747 cruising at 39,000 feet en-route San Francisco to Honolulu. Following a controlled emergency descent, all engines were restarted at 26,000 feet and the flight continued the last 500 miles to Honolulu. Intensive investigations failed to determine the cause of engine failure but highly suspected fuel icing was later confirmed.
Another memorable occasion was my retirement flight as a 747 Captain, San Francisco to Honolulu with my wife, Phyllis, daughters, Ann and Mary and other relatives aboard. Dinner on the beach at Chuck's Steakhouse and Aloha, Nui, Aloha.
