Captain Murdoch served as a pilot in the United States Navy. He spent the majority of his career flying P2s and P3s assigned to squadrons VP662 and VP68. Their mission included the tracking of Russian submarines in the Atlantic Ocean during the cold war. Closing out his career as an aviator, he became Reserve Commander in Chief of the US Atlantic Fleet Detachment 106 before retiring in 1992. He still runs his family owned and operated florist shop in Maryland.
