    Mr. John P. Box

Jack Box began his career with United Air Lines in 1943 flying C-54 cargo planes in the Pacific during World War II. Notably he was flying co-pilot on the second plane to land in Tokyo at the end of the war to pick up American prisoners of war (POWs).

Following the war he moved to left seat as a 26-year-old Captain flying DC-3s domiciled in Chicago. For United he flew, in addition to the DC-3, the DC-6 and DC-6B, Convair 340, DC-7, Boeing 720, DC-8, DC-10, and retired off the Boeing 747 flying the Honolulu run out of San Francisco in 1980.

He accumulated over 37,000 hours flight time. The planes he enjoyed the most were the DC-10 and Boeing 747. "The -10 had big windows in the cockpit and you could horse it around and the 747 flew like an angel."
