Dr. Jag J. Singh

Captain Jagat Singh was born in an affluent Indian Family in August 1923. After completing his high school education, he enlisted in the Indian Army in 1940 very much against the wishes of his father, who wanted him to graduate from college and enter the Indian Military Academy. However, Jagat Singh rose steadily through the ranks and was commissioned as a Naib Risaldar in 1958. While leading his troops in hot pursuit of the retreating Pakistani army in 1965, his jeep hit a landmine and Risaldar Jagat Singh was severely injured. The Indian Army awarded him a Distinguished Service Medal for routing the Pakistani invaders. He was soon promoted to the rank of Risaldar Major and later Captain. Capt Singh retired from active duty in 1972. He served as the Security Chief in a number of Indian Business companies during his retirement. He passed away in 1976. He was posthumously promoted to the rank of Brevet Brigadier General in the Singhasan Security Force in 2012. As a young officer, Capt. Jagat Singh kept quite a menagerie of pedigreed dogs: Doberman Pinscher, German Shepherd, Cocker Spaniel, English Foxhound, and an Alaskan Husky. He also kept several dozens of natural pigeons ranging in color from natural grey to speckled or pure white. He employed a full-time attendant whose sole duties were to feed, exercise, and groom his dogs as well as feed and keep the pigeon habitat clean. Capt Singh was the father of two sons and had four grandchildren. He was a true gentleman, ever ready to help all in need. He was an asset to his country.
