    Born December 6, 1932, Jim completed the United States Naval Flight Training Program and was designated a Naval Aviator and commissioned a Second Lieutenant United States Marine Corps Reserve in June 1955. First assignment with Marine Attack Squadron 333 at Marine Corps Air Station Miami, Florida. Completing the required training, he was designated a Special Weapons Delivery and Attack pilot, day and night carrier qualified in the AD 6 Skyraider. Transferred to Marine Attack Squadron 121 at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan in January of 1957, flying AD 6 aircraft until VMA 121 returned to US and he remained as a Flight Officer with Marine Aircraft Group 12 Flight Office, flying TV, AD, and A4D aircraft. Transferred to First Marine Division Air Office at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, March 1958, flying SNB aircraft for proficiency. Transferred to MCAS El Toro, California Flight Office in July 1959, flying SNB, UO 1,TV and R4D aircraft. Transferred to VMA 121, MCAS El Toro July 1961, flying A4D 2N aircraft and redesigned Special Weapons Delivery and Attack Pilot (Jet). Transferred to MAG Operations (S-3), MCAS El Toro July 1962, flying R4D, SNB, TV and A4D aircraft. Temporary duty included as a Special Weapons Instructor at Marine Special Weapons Training Unit. Transferred to US Navy Training Squadron 21, Naval Auxiliary Air Station Kingsville, Texas March 1963, as Advanced Flight Training Instructor, flying TF9J and AF9J aircraft. Resigned USMC commission April 1965 to join United Airlines as a Flight Officer in San Francisco, California.. Flew as DC -6 Flight Engineer (SO), B-720 SO, B-720 Co-Pilot (FO), B-747 SO, DC-10 FO, B727 Captain, with retirement January 1, 1993.
