    Captain Glendenning served as both a Naval Aviator and as an airline pilot for United Air Lines. He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from January 1955 to January 1968 and continued to serve in the active Naval Reserve from January 1968 until his retirement from the Navy in November 1975. He completed two tours of combat in the Viet Nam conflict flying the Douglas A-1 Skyraider. Captain Glendenning was serving as Commander of VR-51 Detachment, Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, Washington at the time of his retirement.

    Captain Glendenning's employment with United Airlines was from January 1968 to his retirement at age 60 in March 1993.

    During his 38-year career he flew the SNJ, SNB, T-34, T-28B, A-1 (all models.), TV-2, C-118, B-737, B-727, and DC-10.
